Thriving Through 60 Years of Existence

History

Founded in 1963, TIPER began operations as a petroleum refining company through a joint venture between the Government of Tanzania and AGIP (now Eni), with an annual refining capacity of 600,000 tonnes.

In 1999, following ORYX Energies’ acquisition of AGIP’s shares, TIPER transitioned into a petroleum storage company. Since then, the company has significantly expanded its storage capacity from 100,000m³ to 313,000m³, becoming the largest petroleum storage facility in Tanzania.

Today, TIPER plays a vital role in the regional energy supply chain, serving as a strategic hub for fuel distribution. The company supplies the domestic market, supports exports to neighboring countries, and facilitates seaborne re-exports.

In 2021, TIPER further strengthened its service offering by introducing truck loading operations, achieving a daily throughput of more than 5,000m³. As the company celebrates 60 years of existence, it continues to evolve, innovate, and contribute to Tanzania’s energy security and economic growth.
