Thriving Through 60 Years of Existence

History

Founded in 1963, TIPER began as a petroleum refining company through a joint venture between the Government of Tanzania and AGIP (now Eni), with an annual refining capacity of 600,000 tonnes.

In 1999, TIPER transitioned into a petroleum storage company following ORYX Energies’ acquisition of AGIP’s shares. Over the years, its storage capacity expanded from 100,000m³ to 313,000m³, making it the largest storage facility in Tanzania.

Today, TIPER serves as a key hub for fuel distribution, supplying the domestic market, exporting to neighboring countries, and facilitating re-exports by sea. In 2021, TIPER further enhanced its services by introducing truck loading operations, achieving a daily throughput of over 5,000m³.

HSSEQ

Commitment to Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Quality

At TIPER, our leadership team is fully aware of the challenges associated with handling and storing hazardous oil products. As these products pose environmental risks, our top priority is to uphold the highest standards in Health, Safety, Security, Environment, and Quality Management (HSSEQ). We are committed to continuous improvement through:

Our HSSEQ roadmap has been carefully developed based on a detailed risk assessment of the TIPER site, addressing seven critical safety scenarios. This proactive approach ensures compliance with international safety standards and sets a benchmark for safety in Dar es Salaam’s oil sector. Furthermore, TIPER actively collaborates with local regulators, reinforcing our position as a leader in HSSEQ improvement initiatives within Tanzania’s oil industry. Our HSSEQ plan not only focuses on preventing major incidents but also includes rapid response measures to minimize potential impacts on people, the environment, and our customers’ interests.
